We have a winner!
We received four entries for last month’s Mystery Photo Contest.
Our winner, Barbara Gorman of Haxtun, Colo., identified the object as a Betty Lamp. It is the symbol of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, chosen because it represents light in the home and light in the mind. The lamp provided light in homes and businesses in the colonial days. It was designed to improve the performance of the lamps. It has a wicker holder in the base of the lamp. This design allowed the drippings from the wick to run back into the bowl and eventually get consumed. The cover confined heat, decreasing smoke, making the oil burn more efficiently.
The photo was sent in by Suzanne Shelley of Montrose Colo. Congratulations to Barbara Gorman and thanks to Suzanne Shelly for sharing this mysterious photo with our readers!
