Winners Named for 2008 Festival of Arts in Saratoga, Wyo.

Randy Nottingham of Casper, earned $500 for Best of Show 2D for his “First Light of Morning,” during the 18th Annual “Festival of the Arts” sponsored by Platte Valley Arts Council (PVAC) in Saratoga, Wyoming, July 4-5, 2008. Guadalupe Barajas of Cheyenne, was also awarded $500 for his Best of Show 3D sculpture, “Reflections,” while Chuck Weaver, Fort Collins, claimed the People’s Choice award for $150 for his sculptures.

Eric & Melissa Nelson from Jelm, Wyoming, were the Board’s Choice with a prize of $150 for their handcrafted jewelry. Awards of Merit went to Gary Keimig for his water color, “Sheep Lake;” Chuck Weaver for his sculpture, “Fandangle;” Dawn Munro for her photograph, “Red Shed;” and Carol Snow for “Ancestors.” Both Ken Carlson and John Werbelow received Awards of Merit for their entire body of work. Each of the Awards of Merit awards were $75.

The popular quick draw gave artists and crafters one hour to complete a piece while the crowd watched the art take shape. The quick draw items sold for a total of $2,105.00, with half going to the PVAC’s scholarship fund, and the rest going to the artist.

Michaela Uhling was awarded the $500 PVAC scholarship, which has been renamed the Gabe Springsteen Memorial Scholarship in honor of the first recipient in 2000. Dani Riker and Garry Wood also received scholarships from the PVAC.

The Children’s Art Workshop on Saturday morning included clay sculpting and painting on rocks. The children not only received the creations they designed, but were given a ribbon.



The Arts Festival also included musical events adding to the fun-filled weekend for all who attended!
