Douglas E. “Doug” Line

Douglas E. “Doug” Line, 63, of Miller died July 24, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Aug. 31, 1945, in Kearney to C. Azale and Irma (Judy) Line.

On June 6, 1964, he married Dixie Hoos in Sumner.

He was raised in the Miller area and attended the Wild Horse School, Miller Public School and Sumner High School, where he graduated in 1963.

He and his wife made their home north of Miller. He loved working the land and tending to livestock on the family ranch that was founded in 1887.

He treasured time with Dixie, his family and many friends. His love of singing and dancing showed through his every note and step. He attended and enjoyed his grandchildren's many activities as long as his health permitted.

He is an inspiration to all after enduring years of medical research through clinical trials that will help someone someday. He was a fighter beyond words, never complaining, always positive ... the best of the best.

He was a faithful member of Sumner Grace Lutheran Church, which was of extreme importance to him. He was a past member of the Sumner Saddle Club, Redwing School Board, Sumner Co-op Board, National and Nebraska Cattlemen's Association, American Quarter Horse Association and Aid Association for Lutherans, where he was a charter member.

He enjoyed playing and coaching Sumner baseball and softball and was a past member/leader of the Diamond Willow 4-H Club.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie; son, Darby (Annette) Line of Miller and their sons, Travis, Dillan, Jason and Creyton; daughters, Deanna (Dan) Sleicher of Kearney and their children, Cassidy and Collin, and Danelle (Matt) Hadwiger of Amherst and their children, Ty, Taryn, Tenley and Tayje; his father of Miller and special friend, Janice Pfeiffer of Amherst; sister, Judy (Robert) Erwin of Sumner and their children, Susan (Brian) Dittmar of Sumner and James Erwin of Akron, Colo.; and 20 special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 2000 and brother, Dan, in 1961.

Edward “Dean” Palser

Edward “Dean” Palser, 62, of Kearney died July 22, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was born April 21, 1947, in Julesburg, Colo., to George and Darlene (Jones) Palser.

On April 28, 1966, he married Barbara Krueger in Scottsbluff.

He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1965 and received his bachelor's degree from Chadron State College in 1970.

He was a teacher and football, golf and track coach in Scottsbluff for 26 years. After retiring from teaching and moving to Kearney, he worked as a field appraiser for the Buffalo County assessor until his death.

He was a member of Northfield Church in Gering and New Life Assembly in Kearney. He sang in the choir at both churches. In his free time, he loved golfing, riding his Harley with his son, and traveling to visit his daughter and her family. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughters in their activities. He refereed high school basketball and volleyball games for many years.

Survivors include his wife; son, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Palser of Kearney; daughter, Wendy (Gary) Marsteller of Lansing, Kan.; granddaughters, Haylee and Hannah Marsteller of Lansing and Addison and Claire Palser of Kearney; sister, Darla (Mark) Schaneman of Windsor, Colo.; brothers, Ray (Marcia) Palser of Scottsbluff and Mark Palser and his wife, Liz, of Phoenix; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Ferne Florence Fransen

Ferne Florence Fransen, 95, of Hershey, died July 26, 2009, at Linden Court in North Platte.

She was born Sept. 4, 1913, at Princeton, to John and Alma W.C. (Axthelm) Leonhardt. She attended school at Hallam, until the family moved south of Sutherland in 1924. She then attended District 19, Sunshine School, through the 8th grade. She stayed with and worked for Mrs. Kate Pierson during the week while attending high school at Sutherland. She graduated from Sutherland High School in 1931.

She continued to work in various homes in Sutherland and North Platte until she married Arthur Harold Fransen on Feb. 12, 1936, at Sutherland. They lived northwest of Hershey from 1936-1942, northeast of Hershey from 1942-1954, then purchased the Oscar and Minnie Fransen Farm in the Nichols Community. They ran a dairy and farmed. They later sold the dairy but continued farming. For several years, she cooked in the kitchens for Western Livestock Auction and the Lincoln County Fair. In the early 1960s, she cooked for Madison Junior High School in North Platte before working in the kitchen of Hershey School. In 1975, they sold the farm and moved into Hershey. Alma came to live with them from 1978 until her death in 1981.

She was a member of the Hershey United Methodist Church, U.M.W., Nichols Ladies Aide and she dedicated her service by serving on the Outreach Committee for the U.M.W.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn (Rodger) White of Hershey; two grandchildren, Brett White of Lincoln, his fiance, Joann Kouba of Manhattan, Kan., Becki (Cary) Sandell of Malcolm; three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Emily and Jessica; several nieces, nephews and other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; an infant daughter, Patricia; her parents; a sister, Luella Poyner; and two brothers, Harold and Floyd Leonhardt.

Vaughn “Jack” G. Weesner

Vaughn “Jack” G. Weesner, 80, of North Platte, died July 25, 2009, at his home.

He was born Mar. 6, 1929, in North Platte to Gayle and Hada Reyner Weesner.

He married Marcia J. Beyerle on Oct. 16, 1953. To this union four children were born.

He served in the United States Navy. After his discharge he worked at the Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman and then as an engineer, retiring from the Union Pacific. He was an active member of the Moose Lodge, VFW, Eagles and Elks. He retired to his home at the Lake and enjoyed his hobbies, which included H.O. model trains, other models and his dog, Nicky.

Survivors include his children, Michele Weesner of Aurora, Colo., Mark Weesner of Elkhorn; six grandchildren, Lake, Taylor, Todd, Trev, Jennifer and Charlene; brother, Bruce (Terri Slaght) Weesner of North Platte; numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcia; and sons, Ted and Todd.
