Tree workshop to include demonstrations

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Three ReTree Nebraska-sponsored workshops in southwestern Nebraska will provide demonstrations of arboriculture techniques critical to thriving trees, said Southwest Nebraska District Forester Rachel Allison.

Workshops are scheduled for Tues., Oct. 20, 2009, in Stratton at the Village Office, 313 Bailey Street; Wed., Oct. 21, in North Platte at the Public Service Building, 1402 North Jeffers; and Thurs., Oct. 22 at the Dawson County Fairgrounds Extension Office, Lexington.

Each workshop will begin at 12:30 p.m. with registration, said Allison. After an hour of indoor presentations on root health and how to have healthy trees; participants will move outside to view and discuss root health issues and to identify stem girdling roots. By learning proper planting techniques and how to diagnosis root problems using an airspade, participants can have better trees in their parks and along their streets.

Each class is limited to 30 students, so interested parties should register now. Participation in this workshop is limited to green industry professionals, ReTree Ambassadors and municipal employees, Allison said.

For more information, contact Rachel Allison at (308) 696-6718.
