Ruby Anna Helen (Lloyd) Henderson
Ruby Anna Helen (Lloyd) Henderson, 81, of Arriba, Colo., passed away on November 5, 2009 in her daughter's home in Northglenn, Colo., after a lengthy illness. She was born and raised a Missouri girl and went to school in Marceline. She met John Henderson (the love of her life) in a penny arcade in Kansas City, Mo. It was during World War II when they met and dated. He went home to West Virginia before being shipped out so she followed him. They couldn't be married in West Virginia because she was too young, (she was 17 years old). They were married in Catlettsburg, Ky., on March 27, 1945.
Three years after they were married, they welcomed their first child, Linda. Two years later, Jane came along. In 1953 their first son Billy was born. Shortly after, John and Ruby moved their growing family to Fort Madison, Iowa. Two years later, Naomi was born. Their last child, Bobby was born in 1961. In 1963, they moved their family to settle in Colorado. In 1971, Ruby and John survived the death of their son Bobby. Ten years later, tragedy struck again and their oldest son Billy passed away in Iowa. She moved on to retire at Safeway in 1986. After retiring, she loved to travel in their RV to many states, including Alaska and soon became winter Texans. Among their travels, she favored going back home to Missouri the most. She also loved picking mushrooms in the back woods of Missouri and guiding her kids and grandkids in the same pleasure.
To pass the time, she enjoyed crocheting and embroidery — you could always count on crocheted hand towels from her for Christmas! She also loved to fish. She enjoyed looking at pictures of her family and talking about her family history. She loved cooking and eating what she cooked. In her later years, she enjoyed watching and teaching her grand-daughters to cook.
Ruby was loved very much by many and will be missed greatly.
She is survived by her husband John Henderson of Arriba, Colo.; daughters Linda McHale of Ft. Lupton, Colo., Jane Henderson of Thornton, Colo., Naomi Black and husband Rusty of Northglenn, Colo.; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
