Colorado farm featured in documentary

A documentary titled “What's Organic about Organic” will be shown across Colorado and Wyoming. The film takes a unique look at organic farming and the high demand for the industry. Featured in the film is Grant Family Farms from Northern Colorado. Grand Family Farms was the first farm to be Certified Organic by the State of Colorado in 1988. Andy Grant, owner and farmer, estimates that the farm will provide over 6000 members with fresh, organic and local produce in 2011.

Public Health Symposium today

A public symposium on Food Systems will discuss the 2012 Farm Bill along with current issues in food safety. Jill Krueger, senior attorney with the National Coordinating Center and Northern Region of the Public Health Law Network, will be the Farm Bill keynote speaker.

Agriculture Secretary Vilsack issues statement on Japanese imports

Agriculture Secretary Vilsack addressed concerns about imports from Japan in a statement. He reassured Americans that there is no reason for concern at this time. Imports from Japan are limited and monitored to meet safety standards. If any risk arises, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has processes and procedures to identify problems.

Wyoming Department of Agriculture gets new Deputy Director

Starting April 11, 2011, Douglas Miyamoto will be serving as the Deputy Director of the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. He brings a wide range of skills and knowledge base of agriculture to the Department. He is a Rawlins, Wyo., native and he currently lives in Cheyenne, Wyo., with his wife.

Colorado Classic Horse Show coming to Denver

The Colorado Classic Horse Show will take place at the National Western Events Center in Denver, Colo., on April 29-May 1, 2011. The show is a multi-breed horse show featuring Arabians, American Saddlebreds and Morgan Horses. The event is a fundraiser for the Girl Scouts of Colorado.
