Rocky Mountain Obituaries 7-11-11

Richard Johnson, 76, of Crook, Colo., passed away June 22, 2011, surrounded by family, friends and love.

He was born on the original Johnson homestead, June 8, 1935, in Parker, Colo. Due to flooding on the day he was born the family could not get to the doctor in Elizabeth so he was delivered by his father's cousin, Ida Carlson, a midwife.

He was very active in sports and 4-H and graduated from Parker High. After high school he went to work at the American Can Company and farmed with his father in Parker. He stole his best friends girl, Jan, and married her on October 18, 1958 making his home on the ranch in Franktown where they started their family.

In the winter of 1974 the family moved to the 17 Ranch in Crook, Colo. His life was devoted to family, ranching and agriculture. He loved being on the ranch and his home was always open to family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jan Johnson. His children Suzanne and husband Dan Meier of Crook, Colo.; Mark and wife Becky Johnson of Crook, Colo.; Justin and wife Kirsten of Phoenix, Ariz.; Jeannette and Marc Rudkin of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Grandchildren Hannah and husband Zach Walker; Kort, Weston and Shayln Johnson; Kilee and Logan Rudkin. Sister Joann and husband Russell Smith of Merino, Colo., Sister-in-law Judy Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Sister-in-law Kathay and husband Darrell Rennels of Livermore, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Lauretta and Arvid Johnson, sister Shirley Wallen and husband Roy and brother Laurence Johnson.

His wishes were for no funeral service, but friends and family are welcome to stop by the ranch and share memories and reflections of his life.
