Faith Irene Harrold

Faith Irene (Mattox) Harrold, 82, of Broken Bow, Neb., passed away May 23, 2013, in Kearney, Neb.

She was born Oct. 3, 1930, to William Wesley (Bunt) and Virginia Mildred (Apperson) Mattox at the family farm in Rose Valley where she attended school, graduating from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1947.

She was a member of the E Free Church in Broken Bow, the last surviving original member of the Senators Extension Club, Royal Neighbors of America Lodge, and was on the Executive Board of Christian Women’s Club for 30-plus years.

She did a lot of sewing, crocheting and knitting in her early married life, but later her love was counted cross stitch, which she did for hire and friends. She enjoyed baking and sharing with friends and neighbors. Her homemade chicken and noodles, apple pie, pancakes, baked beans and sweet corn were some of the grandkids’ favorites.

On Oct. 3, 1949, at the Fairbury Nazarene Church, she married Orville W Harrold. She lived her entire life in Custer County, Neb.

In 1955 they moved to their home in Swiss Valley. Faith was Orville’s partner and helpmate in all parts of their ranch and farm operations. Orville said she was the best hired man he ever had. Three daughters were born there.

In 1998, they semi-retired and moved from their farm home of 43 years to Broken Bow, Neb. She worked part time at a craft store, Hallmark card shop, and other odd jobs. She was always willing to help, and never learned to say “no.” It was her faith that kept her going in good times and bad.

After 3 daughters, 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson, Faith sure enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching her three little great grandsons play and grow. She never missed a birthday or Christmas for the family without a card and gift of some kind.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Orville; daughters; Gloria (Dean) Duryea, Merna; Neva (John) Meyerhoff, Randolph, N.J.; and Melanie (Bill) Lovgren, Omaha. One grandson, Adam (Erin) Duryea, Merna; five granddaughters, Rebecca (Doug) White, Merna; Casi Meyerhoff, Hoboken, N.J.; Ashley Meyerhoff, Lincoln; Emily (Vince) Lau, Omaha; Olivia Lovgren, Omaha; four great-grandsons, Zachary Hammond, Broken Bow, Neb.; Destrey Duryea, Merna, Neb.; Ayden and Trevor Duryea, Merna, Neb.; one great-granddaughter, Cassidy Hammond, Merna, Neb.; brothers, Max (Donna) Mattox, Broken Bow, Neb.; Dale (Beverly) Mattox, Cheyenne, Wyo.; Joe (Neva) Mattox, Broken Bow, Neb.; two sisters, Darlene Mattox, Broken Bow, Neb.; Carolyn (Roger) Miles, Lincoln, Neb.; one sister-in-law Luella, Bakersfield, Calif., and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Donald Mattox of Bakersfield, Calif.

Services were held at the Evangelical Free Church on May 29, 2013.

Burial was at the Broken Bow Cemetery. ❖
