Donald Lee Kennedy

Donald Lee Kennedy, 79, of Wauneta, Neb., July 17, 2013, at the Sunrise Heights Nursing Home in Wauneta.

He was born November 19, 1933, south of Madrid in Perkins County, Neb., to Presley Sherman and Effie Stella (Kline) Kennedy.

On May 21, 1952, Don married Jacqueline Lucille Spaulding in Wray, Colo. The couple settled on the family farm northeast of Wauneta in Hayes County. Don was an avid farmer/rancher. Don and Jackie later moved into Wauneta in August of 2006.

Don served on the Galena and Garfield Country School boards in Hayes County.

He enjoyed bowling, golf, shooting blue rocks and hunting. Don also liked to roller skate, and in fact met Jackie at the roller skating rink in Benkelman 63 years ago.

Survivors Include: Wife, Jackie of Wauneta, Neb., Mother-In-Law, Lucille Spaulding of Benkelman, Neb. Daughter, Jannette Lantis of Hershey, Neb. Sons, Larry and wife, Gracia, of North Platte, Neb. Danny and wife, Teresa, of Purdum, Neb. Daughter, Vicki Jussel and husband, Dave, of Waddell, Ariz. 12 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren.Sister-in-law: Lola Kennedy of Culbertson, Neb. Brother-in-law: Jack Terry of Commerce City, Colo. Sister-in-law: Jeannie Blecha of Benkelman, Neb.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill; sisters Frances Kerchal, Luella Terry; son-in-law John Lantis; father-in-law Milo Spaulding; and brothers-in-law Dale Blecha and Virgil Kerchal.

Services were held Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, Neb. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Neb.

A memorial has been established in Don’s memory.

Gladys Ann Duggan

Gladys Ann Duggan, 70, of Hershey, Neb., passed away July 8, 2013, at her home north of Hershey surrounded by her family.

Gladys was born October 2, 1942, in Bell City, Mo., to Charles Ray and Ora Kathryn Simmons Lawrence. Since her father was a logger, she grew up between Missouri and Idaho. Gladys’ favorite place on this earth was Featherville, Idaho.

On October 13, 1963, Gladys married Gerald Wayne Duggan in Boise, Idaho. They moved to Hershey and worked for Fred Hoatson. In February 1965 they moved back to Idaho where Gladys was a telephone operator with Mountain Bell. They returned to Hershey in 1972 where Gerald farmed with his brother and Gladys worked at Williams Husky Truck Stop as a cashier. She spent the next 35 years working at the Tomahawk in North Platte and the Hershey Truck Stop and the Western Convenience Truck Stop at Hershey, as a cashier and eventually bookkeeper. In the past year, she worked at the Lincoln Connection in North Platte and most recently at the Senior Center in Hershey.

Gladys was a member of the Hershey Baptist Church where she served as treasurer.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Grier of North Platte, Neb.; two sons, Kenneth (Jacqueline) Duggan of Fort Morgan, Colo., and Dale (Shanna) Duggan of Hershey, Neb.; seven grandchildren; her mother, Ora Kathryn Lawrence of Boise, Idaho; three brothers, Lloyd (Terry), James (Char) and Robert (Cathy) Lawrence, all of Idaho; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Duggan; and her father, Charles Lawrence.

Services were held July 12, 2013, at the Hershey Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, Neb.

Memorials are suggested to the Hershey Baptist Church or the North Platte Municipal Band.
