24th Annual Colorado Cowboy Poetry Gathering

This may sound like a strange way to start out a story about a Cowboy Poetry Gathering, but stay with me and I think you will understand my point: One sunny summer evening two big bullfrogs were sitting at the edge of a farm pond enjoying their daily diet of flies. After several hours one frog turned to the other and said, “Time sure is fun when you’re having flies”.

To say the least, the time sure has been fun at all of the previous 23 years of the Colorado Cowboy Poetry Gathering and will, without a doubt, be the same this year at our 24th Gathering. I was one of the Cowboy Poets at that very first gathering at the Arvada Center for Arts & Humanities, and I have been having fun at every one since.

For those of you who have never attended one of our gatherings, may I suggest that you not let another year go by without joining in the fun? Cowboys are known for doing things on “the spur of the moment”, pardon the pun, and this is your chance to do the same. This year’s gathering will be held on January 17th-20th at the Mountaineering Center located at 710 10th Street in Golden, Colorado.

The All-star line-up of Cowboy Poets and Musicians includes, but is not limited, to the following: Eli Barsi, Bill Barwick, Mike Blakely, Jon Chandler, Patty Clayton, Doris Daley, Sam DeLeeuw, Skip Gorman, Ernie Martinez, Liz Masterson, Gary McMahan, Chuck Pyle, John Schaffner, Pop Wagner, Barry Ward, and the Yampa Valley Boys. To add to your enjoyment of this great event be sure to partake of the authentic cowboy food provided by S&S Chuckwagon. All food will be cooked on location over wood fires and in cast iron dutch ovens.
