"THE BEEF STATE" license plate is back

Recent times have been good for Nebraska beef producers.

On top of record-high cattle prices and stabalized feed prices, Nebraska in recent months replaced Texas as the top state for its number of cattle on feed.

Additionally, the U.S. Census of Agriculture, released this spring, showed that Nebraska possessed three of the nation’s top five beef-cow counties in the country, those being Cherry County at No. 1, and close behind Holt County and Custer County making the top five.

Therefore, the timing seemed right to bring back a long-time Nebraska symbol.

Earlier this year, the Nebraska Cattlemen and Nebraska Cattlemen Research and Education Foundation announced that they have received the 500 applications needed to bring back the “THE BEEF STATE” organizational license plate.

With more being made, it’s not too late to get yours.

There’s no need to be a beef producer to show your pride in what your Nebraska friends and neighbors are producing for the world’s table.

The plates are $70 with a small registration fee at your county treasurer’s office at time of picking them up. If you have ever advertised, this traveling “ad” is inexpensive and will last several years.

I am proud to be a spokesperson for what my family produces.

I had my plates on my car in time for our county fair and shared the story of our product, so they serve as a great lead into talking up the beef industry in Nebraska.
