Crawford centenarian, Alice Porter, celebrates

Beth Gibbons
Crawford, Neb.
Alice Porter and her son, Dave, celebrate her 100th birthday.

Crawford’s Alice Porter is 100 years old. Alice is as perky as ever and still enjoys eating at the Crawford Senior Center though she says it is harder to hear people to visit. She was still driving her pickup until a few years ago. She recently celebrated with an open house at the Crawford Senior Center. Her son Dave Porter and grandson Mike Porter came to entertain and to help with the celebrating festivities.

Alice was born March 5, 1910, and she grew up in a family of five sisters and three brothers. She was married to John Porter for 61 years before his death. They had two sons. Her son John is deceased. She received congratulations from the Nebraska Century Society and a certificate of congratulations from Governor Dave Heineman.

She spent 75 years living on the homestead at Belmont. She was the Fourth of July parade as Grand Marshal in 2008. Alice learned to play the fiddle and she then played in contests.
