Robert Thomsen

Robert L. Thomsen, 78, of North Platte, Neb., passed away August 12, 2014 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Bob was born on February 23, 1936 in North Platte, Neb. He was the fourth of seven children born to Arnold and Ruby (Liljigren) Thomsen.

He grew up in North Platte and moved with his family to the farm south of North Platte. After graduating from North Platte High School in 1954, he joined the Navy.

He met and married his wife Marion (Davis) in Cranston, R.I., in 1957.

He farmed and had a dairy from 1958-1997 and retired at that time, moving back to North Platte.

Bob will always be remembered for all the good humor and whoopies he left behind. He loved traveling in the motor home and playing horseshoes all over the country. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Marion of North Platte, Neb.; children, Michael (Justine) Thomsen of North Platte, Neb., Randall (Michelle) Thomsen of Colorado Springs, Colo., Robert “Gary” Thomsen of North Platte, Neb., Steven (Drae) Thomsen of Nampa, Idaho, and Barbara (Steve) Vance of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Jean Bonnin of Andover, Minn.; sister-in-law, Julaine Thomsen of North Platte, Neb.; and brothers-in-law, Jay Van Winkle of Tucson, Ariz., and Leonard Logg of Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marty and Charles; and sisters, Mary Fields, Rosie Van Winkle, and Janice Logg.

Mass of Christian Burial was held August 18, 2014 at St. Partick’s Catholic Church. Burial followed at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with full military honors graveside.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Arthur Jensen

Arthur Jensen, 103, of Grand Island, Neb., passed away August 14, 2014 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island, Neb.

Mr. Jensen was born February 5, 1911, on a farm in Howard County.

In 1920 his family moved to a farm north of Dannebrog, Neb. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Dannebrog High School in 1928.

Following high school Arthur worked on Milo German’s farm near Cozad, Neb. While working for Milo he met his future bride, Virginia Helberg.

Arthur and Virginia were united in marriage on September 1, 1939, at North Platte, Neb. With the help of Milo the couple made their home on a farm south of Gothenburg, Neb., where they raised their family. In 1964 they moved to a farm north of Shelton, Neb., where Arthur continued to farm until retirement in 1984. In 1991 Arthur and Virginia moved to Grand Island. Mrs. Jensen preceded him in death on November 22, 1999.

As a young man Mr. Jensen loved to ride his Harley motorcycle and even traveled to California twice in the 1930s. He also enjoyed playing cards, pitching horseshoes, bowling, watching baseball and shooting pool. He also enjoyed watching his son, Laverne, play softball throughout the years. Most of all Art enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by a son, Laverne (Judy) Jensen of Grand Island, Neb.; five daughters, Eunice (Gus) Vayas of Austin, Texas, Rosemary Moore of Belen, N.M., Carol (Lyle) Gronewold of Gothenburg, Neb., Jolyn (Scott) Harris of Kearney, Mo., and Kathy (Gordy) Potter of West Bend, Wis.; 23 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, George (Darlene) Jensen of Minden, Neb.; a sister, Helen Armour of Grand Island, Neb.; and five sisters-in-law.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; a son, Dwayne; a grandson; eight brothers; and three sisters.

Services were held August 18, 2014, at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial was in Westlawn Memorial Park. ❖
