Octave Ernest Nicolas
Octave Ernest Nicolas, 78, of Olathe, Colo., passed away October 4, 2013.
He was born May 3, 1935 to French immigrants Auguste and Sophie (Prell) Nicolas in Montrose, Colo.
He grew up and attended school in Cimarron and Montrose Areas and graduating from Montrose High School in 1953.
Octave married Patricia Morgan, January 23, 1960 in Montrose, Colo.
He was a member of the Army Reserves.
He was a rancher all of his life, raising sheep and cattle. Octave’s whole life was his livestock and his family, he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Pat of the family home in Olathe, Colo.; their three children, daughter, Kim (Gary) Peterson of Montrose, Colo., sons, Octave Scott (Merilyn) and August E. (Suzie) both of Olathe, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Lindsey (Mike) Moreland of Olathe, Colo., Kristen (Brandon) Barker of Montrose, Colo., Octave Kyle Nicolas of Montrose, Colo., Mike (Sarah) Nicolas of Olathe, Colo., Amanda Nicolas and her fiance’ Kevin Kyle of Olathe, Colo., Randy (Breena) Nicolas of Montrose, Colo., Wesley (Megan) Purdum of Washington; 10 great grandchildren; brother August (Sherry Lynn); sister-in-law Sherry D. Nicolas both of Montrose, Colo., and brother in law Ike Berry of Mack, Colo.; several nieces and nephews.
Octave was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jennie Peth and Aime Berry; brother Paul and nephew Jason Nicolas.

Services were held October 12, 2013, at the Montrose Christian Church. Interment followed t at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose, Colo. ❖
William Lloyd Burdick
William Lloyd Burdick, 85, of North Fork, Colo., passed away October 29, 2013, at Horizon Care Center in Eckert, Colo.
Lloyd was born July 26, 1928 in Guffey, Colo., to William and Gladys (Ball) Burdick.
William grew up in Guffey and attended school there. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Lloyd married Carol Ruth Kelley in Woodland Park, Colo. Carol passed away just a few months ago in July. They had lived in the North Fork area for 50 years, coming here from the Tarryall area of Colorado.
He enjoyed his time spent on his ranch raising cattle and farming. He was particularly fond of irrigating.
Lloyd is survived by his son Steven (Anna) Burdick of Crawford, Colo.; his daughter Gail Burdick of Hotchkiss, Colo.; and two step grandchildren.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Carol.
