Venice B. Bruton

Venice B. Bruton, 102, of Delta, Colo., passed away November 5, 2013 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colo.

Venice was born to Marshall Naye Hallock and Rosie Woods Hallock on April 1, 1911 on a farm in the Gunnison Valley.

Her family moved to a farm in the Tongue Creek Valley and then to a farm east of Read, Colo., where she grew up.

She enjoyed sharing wonderful stories of her childhood and growing up in a rural horse and buggy era. They had Shetland ponies that pulled the girls in a cart. She told of her father bringing into the house a baby Shetland pony born on her birthday and saying “Here’s your birthday present Venice!”

Venice married Glenn Bruton on September 14, 1932 in Gunnison, Colo.

Her joy was in the Lord, in her husband and raising their three children. The family lived in Delta, where Glenn was employed by the Mobil Oil Corporation.

She is survived by her sons; Larry (Joanne) Bruton of Durango, Colo., and Lowell Bruton of Delta, Colo., one daughter; Carolyn (John) Welch of Montrose, Colo. She is further survived by eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, two brothers; Corvan Hallock and Eugene Hallock, and three sisters; Vernal Duncan, Vivian Morris, and Marjorie Pulliam.

Services were held November 16, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Delta, Colo. Burial followed at Delta City Cemetery.

Venice was nearly a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Delta. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made in her name to the Church.

William Lloyd Burdick

William Lloyd Burdick, 85, of North Fork, Colo., passed away October 29, 2013, at Horizon Care Center in Eckert, Colo.

Lloyd was born July 26, 1928 in Guffey, Colo., to William and Gladys (Ball) Burdick.

William grew up in Guffey and attended school there.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Lloyd married Carol Ruth Kelley in Woodland Park, Colo. Carol passed away just a few months ago in July. They had lived in the North Fork area for 50 years, coming here from the Tarryall area of Colorado.

He enjoyed his time spent on his ranch raising cattle and farming. He was particularly fond of irrigating.

Lloyd is survived by his son Steven (Anna) Burdick of Crawford, Colo.; his daughter Gail Burdick of Hotchkiss, Colo.; and two step grandchildren.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Carol.

Upon his request no services will be held.
