Marilyn Ella Harris
Marilyn E. Harris, 92, of North Platte, Neb., passed away December 15, 2013, at North Platte Care Center.
Marilyn Ella Mulcahy was born April 19, 1921 to Thomas and Gladys (Bruce) Mulcahy in Gordon, Neb.
Marilyn graduated from Clinton High School.
She married Robert James Harris in Chadron, Neb., on January 29, 1941.
Marilyn worked at home as a homemaker as well as a farm hand and loving care giver to their many animals and eight children.
Marilyn and Robert spent most of their years working on their farms in western Nebraska. In 1966, they moved to Chadron, where both Marilyn and Robert worked at Chadron State College. Later, they moved to North Platte, where Robert and his sons owned and operated Harris Woodcraft and Marilyn worked at Linden Manor. Many years later, they moved to Gordon, Neb.
Marilyn attended the Nazarene Church in Chadron, Nazarene Church and First Church of God in North Platte and the First Church of God in Gordon, Neb.
Marilyn enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and caring for others. She loved writing poems and sharing her faith with others.
She is survived by her seven children; Ronald James Harris of Cheyenne, Wyo., Phillip Thomas (Bev) Harris, Nancy Elizabeth (John) Rice, Eleanor Gladys (Ed) Roth all of Punta Gorda, Fla., Elaine Carol Zobel of Hoxie, Kan., Mark Bruce (Deb) Harris of North Platte, Neb., and Karen Ann Harris of San Diego, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 37 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; loving husband, Robert in 1994; her son, Larry Robert Harris; three brothers, two sisters; a son-in-law, Gary Zobel; a grandson, Joel Thomas Harris; a granddaughter, Tanya Roth; and a great grandson, Nathan Lane Ingalls.
Memorial services were held December 21, 2013 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Cremation was chosen. Inurnment will be at Gordon, Neb., at a later date. ❖
Vivian Kompus, 94, of Benkelman, Neb., passed away December 12, 2013 at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Neb., with family by her side.
Vivian Kompus was born September 23, 1919 to Marie and Elmer Martin. She lived in Cambridge, Neb., in her early life.
On June 25, 1941 she married Donald Frandsen and they were farmers and cattle feeders. Two daughters were born, Donita and Shirley. Donald lost his life in a tractor accident in 1957.
Vivian remained on the farm until the girls were grown then they moved to McCook, Neb.
October 16, 1971 she married John Kompus, so she was back to the farm at Herndon, Kan., until they retired and moved to McCook.
John passed away May 9, 1992.
Vivian was a homemaker and got to love and enjoy her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughters, Donita and husband, Ron Clark of Benkelman, Neb., Shirley and husband, Gale Harder of Bella Vista, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Cindy and husband, Todd Anderson; Tina and husband Lester Beall, Travis and wife, Alli Harder, Brian and wife, Christy Harder; nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Gladys; brothers, Burhl and Ervin; two nephews, Glenn and Dwayne; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and friends.
Services were held December 16, 2013, at First Congregational Church in McCook, Neb. Burial took place at the Cambridge Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church.
