Vernon Dale Kohl, 75, of Bingham died Dec. 27, 2009, in Chadron, Neb.

He was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Stapleton, Neb., to Arthur and Alma (Watson) Kohl. He was raised in North Platte where he attended high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 serving until 1958. He served on the recommissioned USS Lexington. After his military service he returned to the North Platte area where he was a rodeo cowboy.

On April 9, 1961, he married Mary Bishop in North Platte. They lived in the Sandhills area and together raised six children. Mary passed away in 1985.

He was an avid horse trader, hunter and loved his grandchildren. He remained living in the Bingham area until his passing.

Survivors include his children, Sheri (Don) Amende of Plainview, Mike (Kathy) Bishop of Chadron, Kenny (BranDee) Kohl of Surprise, Todd (Adeline) Kohl of Douglas, Wyo., Jess Kohl of Gordon and Thad (Jody) Kohl of Cheyenne, Wyo.; his grandchildren, Doni Cheri (Jason) Neuhause, Lori Amende, Justin (Marlena) Amende, Stetson (Janelle) Bishop, Tennessee Bishop, Mary Ell Kohl, Clare Jimmie Kohl, Ashley Kohl, Shaley Kohl, Jenielle Kohl, Daycia Kohl, Amanda Faye Kohl and Trevor Kohl; his great-grandchildren, Colton and Katie Neuhause, Taya Amende, Brandi and Macarti Bishop, and Westin Kohl; and his brothers and sisters, Loyal Kohl, Karla Meyers and LeEtta (Bob) Coons all of North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his parents; his wife’s parents, R.S. and Virginia Mooney; his sisters, Dee Kohl and Karen Binegar and brothers, Gil Kohl and Jay Kohl, and sister-in-law, Bonnie Kohl.
