Emden William Herman Poos, 95, of Loveland, Colo., passed away April 20, 2010.

He was born south of Wray, Colo., on Dec. 15, 1914, to William and Dora (Heitman) Poos. He was the fourth of eight children. He was baptized on Feb. 21, 1915, in Vernon, Colo., and was confirmed on March 24, 1929 in Amherst, Colo., where he attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and school. Emden was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Loveland, Colo.

On April 4, 1940, in McCook, Neb., Emden married Raella Hageman of Holyoke, Colo. Em and Raella began a lifelong career in farming near Holyoke, Colo. Em was recognized as an Honorary State FFA Farmer. Em’s best friend and son, Larry, joined the farming operation in 1957. Emden and Raella enjoyed many years at their cabin in Poudre Canyon, where he liked to fish. They also enjoyed many winters in Truth or Consequences, N.M., where they enjoyed friends, dancing, and rock hunting. In 1993 they moved to Loveland, Colo., where Emden liked to garden, play cards and listen to music. He loved children. He liked to go about anywhere and was still driving at age 95.

He is survived by his wife, Raella of Loveland, Colo.; daughter, Linda (Dennis) Isakson of Van Tassell, Wyo.; son, Larry (Jeanette) Poos of Holyoke, Colo.; six grandchildren, Andrew (Chris) Isakson of Highlands Ranch, Colo., John Isakson (Melissa) of Cumming, Ga., Julie (Mark) Ferguson of Imperial, Neb., Matthew (Rhonda) Isakson of Levittown, N.Y., Debby (Justin) Phinney of Gill, Colo., Isaiah (Erica) Isakson of Sweetgrass, Mont.; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Pillard and Elva Harrow both of Greeley, Colo., one brother-in-law, Oron Schmidt of Thermopolis, Wyo., and his namesake, Emden Charles Elder of Lake Crystal, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) and Dora (Heitman) Poos, and his siblings, Genova Deterding, Annie Claymon, Willty Poos, Clara Jones, and infant sister, Ruthie May Poos.

Services were held April 23, 2010 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
