I t was hot and dusty, but more than 50 cowgirls showed up and got the job done at the second annual Cowgirl Swank Classic Women's Ranch Rodeo.

The event, July 19-20 in Crawford, Neb., was sanctioned by the Women's Ranch Rodeo Association, and teams from Nebraska and Wyoming qualified for the WRRA World Finals, planned for Oct. 17-18 in Loveland, Colo.

According to organizer Cheyenne Wilson, the weekend was memorable in more ways than one.

"We had an incredible weekend, with incredible teams and incredible heat," she said. "Both days were above 100 degrees, but the gals toughed it out and pushed through."

"We had a great event with 13 teams and a total of 52 lady contestants. Once again we were able to offer awards valued at over $5,000 along with 100 percent payback."

She offered her gratitude to the event sponsors, rodeo volunteers and the contestants. "A simple thank you doesn't seem enough. Without each of those individuals, our rodeo wouldn't exist," she said.
