• Grade Reports Due for State Qualifiers

June 11

• Last Day to Draw Out for State Finals

The Ernie Swedberg family will be offering a $425 scholarship to a senior girl that participates in the barrel racing event. Ernie was an avid supporter of his families rodeo activities and the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association is grateful that the family is offering this scholarship opportunity. An application for this scholarship and all other Nebraska High School Rodeo Scholarships can be found on our website.

Forms for the congratulatory ads for the state finals program book are available on the website.

Senior pictures are due by May 23. Bill fold size in a hard copy is recommended but pictures that are emailed must be at least 300 dpi resolution and in jpeg format, or they cannot be used. Pictures can be emailed directly to jeanne.morgan@morganranchinc.com. If you are mailing a hard copy picture, please mail that to Becky Dailey at PO Box 10, Arnold, NE 69120. Congratulatory ads for the state finals program book are also due by May 23.

Saturday evening, May 26th at 7:30 p.m. Central Time in Valentine, NE the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Cherry County Committee would like to take a photo in the arena of the high school rodeo cowboys and cowgirls. For more information, check the website.

If you are interested in running for Queen and have any questions regarding the contest, please contact either Monique Nelson or Tricia Schaffer. We would like a picture of you to put in the program book and will need those no later than June 1.

We are looking for a cover for the State Finals Program Book. If you have a photo or original art that you would like to submit, get it to Jeanne Morgan or Tricia Schaffer.

“Kim Riley and friends” have volunteered to run the 50/50 this spring. So participate in this worthwhile cause and have no worries about having to “sell the tickets.”

Contestants interested in running for Event Director & Student Officer for next season should contact Tricia Schaffer or Brandy Brown.

Class pictures will be taken at the Stapleton H.S. Rodeo. We are taking this at Stapleton so more contestants will have a chance to be in their class picture. This will be used in our calendar.

And there’s more. You will also win a saddle of your choice, buckle, money for travel and the opportunity to meet other cowgirls and cowboys from 47 states, Canadian provinces and Australia! This chance only comes once a year and is available to cowgirls who are in grades 9, 10 and 11 and members of the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association.

What’s the catch? Compete in the 2012 Nebraska High School Rodeo Queen Contest! Rules for the contest can be found in your national rulebook. The contest will take place in Hastings prior to the start of the state finals rodeo.

What we need to know is who of you are interested in this opportunity of a lifetime? Please contact Monique Nelson or Tricia Schaffer and we can answer what questions you might have about the contest.

The National High School Finals Rodeo will again offer scholarships to the Top Five of the National High School Rifle and Trap Shooting Competition to be held in Gillette, Wyo. The scholarships range from $1,250 to $350.

Qualification for this competition will be held on Wednesday, June 23 at 7 p.m., during the state finals in Hastings. The Four Rivers Gun Club will again host this event.

Contestants will need to sign up for this event by June 12th. You can sign up by contacting Tricia Schaffer at 308-534-1244 or email to triciaschaffer@hotmail.com. Contestants can participate in both events.

Scholarship interviews for the NHSRA scholarships will be held on Wednesday, June 23, beginning at 12:00 noon in Hastings at the fairgrounds. Contestants can sign up for interview times by contacting K.C. Schaack.

The queen candidates are selling tickets for a free trip to the state finals. That includes 1 Full Service Camper Hookup, 1 stall, 2 rodeo passes to each performance, Fuel card and cash. Tickets are 1 for $5.00 or 5 for $20.00. This money will go to the New State Queen in helping with her expenses to Nationals Rodeo.

The only event that K.C. Schaack will be taking jackpot entries for will be for the Girls Breakaway event. Contact K.C. before the event to enter.
