2011 La Junta Farm Day, March 11-13
Mid March is always the date for Delbert Jones’ Farm Days, as it has been for about 28 years or so. Mark the dates of the 11th through the 13th, for the 2011 edition, which unfortunately for some, conflicts with the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo at the NWSS complex in Denver, Colo.
Many teamsters come in on Friday to get their equipment in order or to shape up their teams and shake the winter time blues from not working much in the cold.
Delbert and his cohorts have a lot of equipment available but do encourage attendees to bring their own, mostly for field preparation, but wagons, manure spreaders, etc., are welcome.
There will be the traditional Saturday evening pot-luck with meat and drinks provided, along with some good old fashion Dutch oven cooking. They could use all the side dishes folks normally bring, from chips to apple pie. The meals are always fantastic.
They encourage you to bring your musical instruments for some picking and grinning after the repast.
They are also looking for some experienced blacksmiths to run forges and demonstrate metal working. An open air church will be held Sunday morning at 8:00, at the site at 28100 Cty Rd 809, across the Arkansas River, north of La Junta, Colo.
