22nd Annual Kites & Castles planned July 30 at Lake McConaughy
The 22nd Annual Kites & Castles event is planned for July 30, 2011, at Martin Bay at Lake McConaughy. The annual kite flying and castle building contest is an event for all ages and skill levels with special categories for youth and families.
Kite fliers and sand sculptors from around the country join in for a fun filled day at the beach. Cash, trophies and prizes are awarded. Plus various evening activities are provided at individual lake businesses.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. in the main parking lot on the north end of Kingsley Dam . Forming and sculpting may not begin until 11 a.m. Judging will be at 4 p.m. with awards presented on the beach at 5 p.m. Additional sculpture viewing and independent kite flying will continue on July 31. T-shirts and hats are available too with the event logo.
