JC Penney partnered with 4-H to provide funds for outreach programs such as after school, summer youth programs and school enrichment.
Monies given during their JC Penney Roundup Event sponsored the trees used during the 4-H/Extension program at Wiggins Elementary School promoting care for our environment. Youth discussed what plants need to grow, why plants, especially trees, are important to our environment and how we can be good stewards of our land. Students planted rocky mountain juniper seedling trees in cups that will be transplanted at their homes, after which they cleaned an area of the school yard. Joanne Jones, Horticulture Agent with Colorado State University Extension in Morgan County along with Jacque Weimer, Colorado Master Gardener volunteer and Fran Covelli, Wiggins Elementary Counselor coordinated the project on a cool, rainy day – perfect weather for planting trees.
Upcoming JC Penney Roundup Events will be held August 4-17, October 13-26 and December 1-14. Customers making a purchase during these dates at the local JC Penney store can roundup their purchase to the nearest dollar and the money raised is given to local 4-H outreach programs.
