4-H leader and fair judge training Feb. 23
Colorado State University Extension in northeast Colorado is sponsoring a 4-H Leader and Fair Judge Training on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in Sterling. The training will focus on the Family and Consumer Sciences topics in support of local 4-H leaders and to promote interest in county fair judging.
Training begins at 8:45 a.m. at the Gary DeSoto Building on the Logan County Fairgrounds in Sterling with an overview of the new and revised 4-H projects and E-Records, as well as project exhibit changes for the 2008 4-H year. 4-H leaders and prospective fair judges will not want to miss learning about the electronic record keeping. The opening session of the morning will also provide hints and tips for the 4-H Interview Judging process and working with kids, as well as an overview of judging Open Class divisions.
The bulk of the morning, participants will be participating in workshops on foods, child development, heritage arts, needlework, consumer education, ceramics and creative arts. The discussion will span both 4-H and Open Class fair judging.
Each workshop session will provide an overview, explain the 4-H project literature and record requirements, examples of fair exhibits, and discuss how to use the exhibit score sheets in evaluating projects. Presenters for the workshops are current 4-H leaders, fair judges and extension agents who have done extensive training and judging in that project area.
Registration of $10 includes breaks and handouts and is due by Feb. 20. Contact the Colorado State University Extension office in your county to register or for more information. Extension programs are available to all without discrimination.
