A good day
Gentle readers, today is Memorial Day and it’s fairly early in the morning. I have been down to put out a little grain for my ponies. I like to have them come in every morning in case I need to get a’horseback to retreive any steers that might have strayed onto the neighbors. I haven’t fixed my breakfast as of yet but am on my third cup of coffee. The first two cups I drank out on the back deck with Clancy “the wonder dog”. I also got a good look at the new steers that arrived a few days ago as they had come in for water.
This country is green, green and greener. It’s a beautiful morning with a bright blue Colorado sky and a few scattered clouds that seem as if they have found their location for the morning. A little breeze out of the north and east reminds me that it could really be a hot one today if not for that soft gentle breeze. It seems that this holiday has become more about road races either by foot or by race cars than by spending more time reflecting on those that gave their all for you and I and the freedoms we enjoy on a day like today. I suppose that it’s okay to celebrate in any number of ways on a day like today. It’s the official start to summer and kids are excited about being out of school and all the adventures that summer might offer up. There will be team ropings plus all sorts of horse activities. It’s a good time to have a picnic with family and friends and just relax.
For me, I am going to meet up with a couple of friends here in an hour or so and we’ll cruise around on the Harleys, actually two Harleys and one Yamaha that looks like a Harley. Okay, okay, I have ridden Hondas, Yamahas and now a Harley. Today has started off to be a really good day. All of the pieces seem to be fitting into the picture that I had painted in my mind. As one of my friends, Richard Seaworth likes to quote, “Mad Jack, I think you had to much to DREAM last night. He sometimes is right on as I am a dreamer even at my old age. I dreamed up a good day and it’s looking like that’s exactly what it’s going to be. I do hope that all of you dear hearts and gentle readers had a happy and pleasant Memorial Day and that this summer is something that you are looking forward to.
I know there are problems and issues that some of you are struggling with that might take away from having the best summer that’s out there. Keep the faith, be strong in your resolve because somewhere, sometime I guarantee you there is a good day ahead. Stay tuned, check yer cinch on occasion and smile when it may be a very difficult thing for you to do. I’ll c. y’all, all y’all. ❖
