Bill Angell has resigned as director/livestock agent with the Weld County office of Colorado State University Extension to become the livestock manager of the Nebraska State Fair. Angell, of La Salle, Colo., had been in the job since June 1 of last year, succeeding Fred Petersen who had resigned.

Angell, who will begin his new job next week, said the decision to leave after just six months was not an easy one.

“It really wasn’t. I enjoyed working with extension agents, there are a lot of really good people involved in extension. But this new opportunity is some awesome deal for somebody with my experience,” Angell said. Prior to taking the Weld job, he was the livestock manager of the National Western Stock Show in Denver for 10 years.

The Nebraska State Fair moved into a $41 million complex in Grand Island’s Fonner Park a year ago, so Angell will be involved on the livestock portion of the show in just the second year at that facility. Previously, the fair had been in Lincoln.

He said he will oversee all of the livestock activities at the fair, including horse shows, and will also be in charge of drawing off-season livestock shows to the new facility.

“This is an opportunity that a guy like me dreams about,” Angell said.
