Calvin Jefferson Quick was born to William V. Quick and Katie Peterson Quick February 24, 2005 at a ranch near Watkins, Colorado. Calvin attended schools around Bennett. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Calvin married Patricia Ruggles on July 16, 1949, and three children were born to the union.
Upon returning from his service to his country, Calvin purchased the Pine Ridge Ranch, land homesteaded by his Peterson Grandparents on Smoky Hill Road east of Aurora. He lived there 48 years, milking cows and raising cattle, wheat and the children he loved. Calvin was active in the West Arapahoe Soil Conservation District, serving as President and on the Board of Directors for many years. He was a member of Cherry Creek Grange.
The ranch was home until Calvin and Pat retired and moved to their new home in Saddle Rock. Calvin was preceded in death by his sister Rhoda. He is survived by Pat, his wife of 58 years, his sisters Mima Britton and Georgina Skipper, and his brother Harry. He is also survived by his children Amy (Jim), Craig (Sharon) and Audrey (Jim), seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. at Castlewood Grange, 7275 S. Lima St. Centennial, CO, 80112. Contributions may be made to the Colorado State Grange Scholarship Fund at the same address. A light buffet will be held at the Grange following the celebration of Calvin’s life.
