Court rules against Trump 10% tariff

The International Court of Trade ruled Thursday that President Trump’s 10% global tariff was unlawful under Section 122 of a 1974 trade law.

The ICT is the same court that found Trump’s tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to be illegal, a ruling upheld by the Supreme Court.

“The ruling weakens the president on his core economic initiative one week before he is scheduled to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing for talks that will focus on the two nations’ trade relationship,” The Washington Post said in an analysis.

Trump has targeted China with tariffs, and U.S. farm groups have said the tariffs imposed on Chinese imports are a reason that China has turned to Brazil and other countries as sources of agriculture and food imports.
