Cow College planned May 12-14 at NCTA

Present cattle producers are met with daily decisions for maximizing productivity while minimizing costs. University of Nebraska-Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) and West Center Research and Extension Center (WCREC) are teaming up to sponsor the Cow College for area ranchers or ranch managers. It will be held May 12-14, 2011 at the NCTA campus in Curtis, Neb.
The three days of information and education for cattlemen begin on Thursday May 12, 2011. The morning session provides information about the NCTA 100 Cow Advantage Program. Local presenters will provide ideas for working out plans for loans, management practices, involving professionals, and marketing. Speaking for the morning session will be: Justin Terry, Brent Plugge, Aaron Stalker, Krystle Friesen and Elton Tophoj.
The afternoon session on Thursday carries a slate of specialists whose theme will focus on getting optimum cow productivity with the best use of resources available in consideration of individual ranch situations. Speakers will be: Dr. Rick Funston, Aaron Stalker, Dr. Matt Spangler, Dr. Jerry Volesky, Dr. Steve Krull, and Dave Smith.
Friday’s session continues the focus on maximizing cow productivity with information about herd health, Beef Quality Assurance, Trichomoniasis, Immunology, and political action groups. Presenters will be Dr. Dave Smith, Drew Gaffney, Dr. Dee Griffin, Dr. Jeff Ondrak, Dr. Bill Burdett, and Pete McClymont.
The Saturday session is about Low Stress Cattle Handling with Dr. Tom Noffsinger. The morning includes the educational presentation, and the afternoon is a lab with learner involvement.
The Cow College can be taken as a three-day program or per individual day. College credit is available depending on how many of the sessions are attended.
