CRP sign-up begins March 14
March 4, 2011
Jeff Wilson, executive director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Weld County, reminds producers that a general sign-up for the federal Conservation Reserve Program has been announced to begin March 14 and continue through April 15.
Land considered eligible during this enrollment period consists of existing CRP contracts that are to expire Sept. 30, or any expired CRP contract acreage that is still devoted to a grass cover and still serving the intended conservation use, or land that was planted to an agricultural commodity in at least four years between 2002 and 2007.
Producers need to call the FSA office to schedule an appointment. Appointments are beneficial to the office staff as well as the producers with respect to organization and time management, Wilson said. Appointments in Weld may be arranged by calling (970) 356-8097, Ext. 2.
The number of acres accepted will be determined by the Secretary of Agriculture after the current sign up concludes and be based on the environmental benefits and the cost associated with the acres being offered.
Producers may get additional information by visiting the Greeley USDA Service Center, 4302 9th St. Road, and on line at http://www.fsa.usda.gov by clicking on Find FSA Fact Sheets in the I Want To section.
