Gary Beach Memorial Scholarship awarded
“We are please to award the Gary Beach Memorial Scholarship to Sarah Dunne a Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering student at the University,” said Pete Jachowski, President of the Wyoming Natural Resource Foundation.
University of Wyoming Junior, Sarah Dunne, a Colorado native was recently selected to receive the 2010 Gary Beach memorial scholarship. Dunne is also a part-time design assistant with the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
“I am fascinated with water resources, such as water treatment and dam structures.” Said Dunne. “I plan on getting a job in the field and learn more about water resources and hopefully stay in Wyoming.” she added.
Dunne has been active in the American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Transportation Engineers and a number of intramural sports at the University.
The Gary Beach scholarship was created in 2006 by the Wyoming Natural Resource Foundation in honor of Gary Beach, a long time employee of the Department of Environmental Quality. Beach was instrumental in working with local conservation districts to establish a grassroots driven watershed planning effort to address Wyoming’s impaired waters. Thanks to the generosity of Beach’s family the scholarship has been continued.
The WNRF offered this $1,200 Gary Beach Memorial Scholarship to University of Wyoming students enrolled at junior status or higher. Students studying natural resource management or related fields were encouraged to apply, and students planning to live and work in Wyoming after graduation were given preference during selection.
