Greeley West FFA October report

Greeley West FFA Reporter

October was a busy month for the Greeley West FFA Chapter of Greeley Colo.

The month kicked off with over 50 students enrolled in Agriscience 1, presenting a five paragraph memorized speech, given by every FFA member, titled the FFA Creed By E.M. Tiffany, in front of family and friends at the chapter’s annual Greenhand night. Although all the students did a great job only three of the many who tried were sent to the district contest hosted by the Platte Valley FFA in Kersey Colo., – all three contestants tried their hardest in Kersey and finished in the bronze category.

The month culminated for the chapter in a mock (staged) car accident involving two cars and three Greeley West students, organized and planned by the FFA chapter, in order to impress upon their fellow students the importance of driving safely and wearing their seatbelts. With the help of Greeley Paramedics, Union Colony Fire Department, Greeley police, Allstate Insurance, Auto Collision Towing, and many more supporters the chapter was able to create an authentic looking accident and present a message to the student body that morning in an all school assembly. The officer team views the event as a success. Members of the FFA did counts of students wearing their seatbelts before and after the accident and found approximately a 25 percent increase in students who wear their seatbelts after they presented their mock accident and numerous speakers. When speaking with the many members involved with the event they will tell you that even if they only impacted one life of a fellow Greeley West Spartan their several months of planning was well worth it.

With the chapter’s membership peaking this year, around 160 members, the officer team is excited to work with their large chapter and accomplishing many things under the FFA motto: “Learning to do, Doing to learn, Earning to live, Living to serve.”

May the coming season bring everyone great harvests whether it be by way of tillage of the soil or in the fields of life.
