Gwen Petersen: In a Sow’s Ear 10-1-11
Big Timber, Mont.
A fellow by the name of Wallace Tripp is author of many delicious kid type wry-eyed books, both narrative and poetry. One of his titles that got me chortling was: “A Great Big Ugly Man Came Up To Me and Tied His Horse to Me.” So, naturally, I thought of cowboy shenanigan possibilities … Couldn’t resist coming up with the following which I’m now struggling to make into an award-winning song on that well-known planet – the one swimming about in outer space scientists have named “Cowboy Peculiar.”
A Great Big Handsome Cowboy Rode Up To Me and Throwed Me On His Horse
Chorus …
A great big handsome cowboy rode up to me
And throwed me on his horse.
He wrapped his manly arms around me
(With manly strength of course).
I was ridin’ my Stella motorscooter
As happy as could be.
My cowdog, she was riding shotgun
In the sidecar next to me.
When I warbled a happy carefree song,
The wind blew back my words
M’ dog she done licked me on the cheek
From the sidecar where she perched.
A great big handsome cowboy rode up to me
And throwed me on his horse.
He wrapped his manly arms around me
(With manly strength of course).
I objected to handsome cowboy’s treatment
I kicked him in the shin.
But he done squeezed me even tighter
And said with a wicked grin.
Now then, come along with me little darlin’
I like the way you ride.
Well, his manly rumbling cowboy voice
It caused me to heave a sigh.
A great big handsome cowboy rode up to me
And throwed me on his horse.
He wrapped his manly arms around me
(With manly strength of course).
But I only laughed and shook him loose
And shouted, “Cowboy, take a hike!
Don’t give me no excuse to hurt you
In places you will not like.”
I said, “Cowboy park yer crowbait Cayuse
And come along with me
And we’ll zoom along the open road
With you in the shotgun seat!”
A great big handsome cowboy rode up to me
And throwed me on his horse.
He wrapped his manly arms around me
(With manly strength of course).
That handsome cowboy sidepassed his horse
All ’round my Stella scooter
And winked, grinned and uncoiled his rope
Which made me toot my tooter.
Then what happened, well you must guess
For I will never ever say
How a big handsome horseback cowboy
Rode up and MADE MY DAY!
A great big handsome cowboy rode up to me
And throwed me on his horse.
He wrapped his manly arms around me
(With manly strength of course).
