Hatcher wins the prize again in 2010.
The variety was the most popular among winter wheat growers last year, according to the Colorado Wheat Research Foundation. It was the fourth consecutive year the variety was tops among state growers.
The Colorado Winter Wheat Variety Survey, conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service in February, revealed that Hatcher was planted on 34.5 percent of all winter wheat acres in the fall of 2010, up from 26.5 percent in 2009.
Hatcher and other Colorado State University/Colorado Wheat Research Foundation varieties were planted on almost 80 percent of the winter wheat acres, according to the survey, which got responses from 1,012 wheat farmers from around the state.
