High Tunnels 101 program offered June 22

The High Tunnels 101: Introduction and Opportunities in Horticulture Crop Production program is offered June 22, 2011, at the West Central Research & Extension Center located on State Farm Road at North Platte, Neb.

High tunnels are valuable production tools for commercial fruit and vegetable growers to extend the growing season and for producing high value crops. Learn more about high tunnels to better serve your clientele or expand your curriculum.

The workshop will include a tour of a high tunnel and learn about production strategies and techniques. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with welcome and introductions following at 9 a.m.

The program agenda includes several topics: Introduction to high tunnels and what can be grown in high tunnels; Combining high tunnels with field production for season- long vegetable production; Cut flower production; NRCS EQIP Program; Mulches and irrigation; and Soil fertility and pest management. A tour to visit a high tunnel area be available at 2:30-4 p.m.
