It’s draft horse time!
On Sunday, October 17 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., the Northern Chapter of the Colorado Draft Horse Association will be holding their annual Free Open House. Hosting again this year will be Mountain View Stables at 2100 SE Frontage Rd., Fort Collins, Colo. This will be the second year at this location and the club hopes to make the event even better than last year when over 200 people attended. There will be free wagon rides for the whole family including a wagon that has a wheel chair ramp that will be available from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m.
There will be the opportunity to work with draft horse owners and get all sorts of information. Get your questions answered about breeds, feeding and care – including hoof care, and learn about the various vehicles, equipment, and harness that these horses use. Free hands on mini-lessons will be given in grooming, harnessing, and ground driving. Tables will be set up with information about local owners and their businesses. In addition to the wagon rides there will be opportunities to take pictures with and ride a draft horse. There is something for all ages, even a draft horses versus humans tug-of-war at 2:30 p.m.
