JBS buys feedlot in Arizona
July 2, 2010
JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding has added another feedlot to its portfolio.
According to a press release posted by JBS S.A., the parent company of Greeley-based JBS USA and Five Rivers, also headquartered in Greeley, the company has bought the McElhaney Feedyard in Welton, Ariz., for $24 million. Welton is along Interstate 8, east of Yuma, Ariz.
McElhaney has a onetime capacity to feed 130,000 head of cattle and is near JBS’s production facility in Tolleson, Ariz., which is along Interstate 10, west of Phoenix. The transaction includes the yards and a feed mill.
At the time Five Rivers became a part of JBS USA last year, it operated 10 feedyards – including three in Colorado – with a one time capacity of 850,000 head.
“As I have said previously, we are strong believers in the U.S. livestock community and we will continue our efforts to bring efficiencies to the sector for the benefit of all,” JBS CEO Wesley Batista said in the release.
