Junior Colorado Arabian Horse Club Youth Horse Judging Team
Boulder County 4-H horse judging team members, making up the Junior Colorado Arabian Horse Club Youth Horse Judging Team, was named Champion Team at the Arabian Horse Association National Judging Contest in Tulsa, Okla. As Champion Team members, each individual on the team received a $250 scholarship and a Montana Silversmith trophy belt buckle from the Arabian Horse Association.
Team members were: Katie Richardson, Madison Zeier, Piper Zeier and Jessica Mullin. Katie Richardson was the Second High Individual of the contest overall, receiving an additional $500 scholarship and a silver headstall for her efforts. Madison Zeier was Third high individual, Piper Zeier was Fifth high individual and Jessica Mullin was Sixth high individual overall. The team was first high team in halter, first high team in performance, first high team in reasons and high placing team overall by an astounding 54 points.
American Quarter Horse Congress
The Boulder County 4-H senior horse judging team represented Colorado at the American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio, earlier in October, by virtue of being named the state champion senior 4-H Horse Judging Team at the Colorado 4-H Conference in June. Those team members were Katie Richardson, who was the high individual of the state contest, Kelly Buchanan and Jenny Lau. In order to send a full team of four members, they were joined by Jessica Mullin, the high individual from the state champion team in 2008. In a very large and competitive contest of 32 FFA, 4-H and Quarter Horse Youth teams, the team placed Third, with Katie Richardson being named to the Top 10 and Jessica Mullin being named the high individual of the contest, in a field of 117 individual entries and receiving a $500 scholarship for that win.
Laramie County Community College Judging Contest
The Boulder County 4-H senior horse judging team composed of team members Kelly Buchanan, Jessica Mullin, Katie Richardson and Jenny Lau competed at the Laramie County Community College Judging Contest in Cheyenne in early October. As the winning team of that contest, all team members received a scholarship of a year of tuition and fees at Laramie community College. In addition, Kelly Buchanan, as high individual of the contest, received a second year of tuition and fees and Jessica Mullin, as the high reasons score of the contest, also received a second year of tuition and fees to Laramie County Community College.
