Ken and Phyllis Babbitt have kept 27 years of the Fence Post issues

Phyllis and Ken Babbitt

The Fence Post has been a favorite publication of ours. As you can see, we have kept every issue for 27 years. We waited for the mailman to deliver them every Monday afternoon. Our evenings were spent reading the Fence Post.

We enjoyed every aspect of the publications as we have been associated and involved with agriculture most of our lives. I was raised on a farm and the 1983 issue of the farmers and their load of beets on the cover brought back a lot of memories. I can remember my folks topping beets and loading them by hand. The technology and farming equipment are so advanced now. Ken also grew up on a small ranch/farm operation. They raised horses and cattle. Ken’s grandfather and uncle homesteaded and ranched west of LaGrange, Wyo., in the late 1800’s.

Ken and I have been married for 53 years. We raised four wonderful children and have 12 grandchildren. We have been dearly blessed. We moved to Laramie, Wyo., in 1960. We were the first family to live on the University of Wyoming Paradise Research farm. Ken worked as a research aid at this facility. Then in 1976 Ken went to work for A & C Feed Company. He went on to become the manager of A & C Feed Company which he thoroughly enjoyed. Working with the ranchers, the agriculture community and the people of Albany County was his life. He also was a 4-H leader. In 1976 Phyllis also went to work at the University of Wyoming starting as a cashier then on to be the Assistant Supervisor of Accounts Payable. She also was mother and homemaker to her family. She loved to cook, garden and do embroidery.

We moved to our present address in the spring of 1976. We live on a small acreage south of Laramie, Wyo. We have raised many different kinds of livestock, animals and poultry, alfalfa/grass hay, gardens, flowers, etc.

We both retired in 2002, but still keep involved with the agriculture community.

It’s been a good life.
