Larimer Fairgrounds groundbreaking set
Larimer County Commissioners Office
“Everyone I know who drives along I-25 from Loveland to Fort Collins has said something like, ‘Have you seen all the trucks moving dirt at the new Fairgrounds site?’ said Larimer County Manager Frank Lancaster, who nods and confirms the sitings. “In fact, Connell Resources is at the site with over 10 large earth movers and they are making quite a difference in a hurry.”
In early April, Larimer County entered into agreement with Fort Collins-based The Neenan Company to complete construction at the new Fairgrounds and Events Complex. Larimer County has been working with Denver-based M.A. Mortenson Company, which has now completed the pre-construction phase of the project. Mortenson’s obligation with the county is complete. Because the County and Mortenson could not come to contract terms for the construction phase of the project, Larimer County will contract with The Neenan Company for this next phase.
The public is invited to groundbreaking festivities at the site on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. The groundbreaking will feature entertainment, a short program, refreshments, and buggy rides, weather permitting. The target opening date for the new $65 million Larimer County Fairgrounds and Events Complex is the fall 2003 hockey season. The Complex will host Central League hockey, national level music concerts and other shows.
