Mabel Morgan celebrates 96 years
Mabel Morgan of the Crawford Ponderosa Villa, formerly of Sioux County, was born Jan. 26, 1914, in her parents home south of Harrison. “The doctor drove out 30 miles,” she said, “when I was born.
“I’ve lived 42 years on the ranch 25 miles northwest of Harrison,” Mabel said. The Morgans raised sheep and then cattle.
When asked about her recipe for living this long, Mabel smiled, “It seems like Norwegians have a long life.” she continued. “I try to eat healthy and keep active. I’ve been a Methodist most of my life and controlled by the Holy Spirit,” she said. Her numerous friends say Mabel hosted a Bible Study in her home for many years, until she moved into the Villa. In the Villa Mabel is known as ‘the smiley lady.’
Mabel has a daughter, Margaret living in Florida and a son, Eldon living near Broken Bow. “Eldon is retired and raising little pigs for young people taking 4-H projects,” she explained. She has seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Howard and Jane Skavdahl, Mabel’s brother and sister-in-law, of Harrison were hosts for the birthday party for Mabel Saturday afternoon. A large number of friends showed up to wish Mabel a wonderful day and share a piece of cake and coffee or punch.
