Mad Jack Hanks: Winter weather, sinus infection make comebacks
April 5, 2016
Gentle readers, if you can remember my last column, I was braggin' on spring being just around the corner. 'Member that?
Well, I reckon I jumped the gun just a tad.
About three days later, we had one of those big bad blizzards. You know, the kind that are on steroids? Yep, 40-60 m.p.h. winds and snow that was so wet you could almost wring it out. The result was big drifts from my back door to the corrals.
While out in that mess trying to take care of my ponies, I wondered how in the world did those Indians that roamed these plains survive during such an ordeal? It seems we have more snow on the way the day after tomorrow. It will not be like this last one, but it will be more than I want at present.

Do you also remember when I wrote a column a couple of weeks back that I had a terrible sinus infection that had me shut down, but still I managed to write that column? Guess what? I got it under control and quit all the hackin', coughin' and blowing my nose.
Ah ha! It has returned as well, so it was back to the doc again this morning to get more antibiotics as I sit here hackin', coughin' and blowin' my nose.
Man! I went to some folks house for Easter dinner and they both are heavy smokers. They are always kind enough not to smoke in the house when they have company. When I stepped in the door, I knew I was in trouble as my reflexes made me gag and I couldn't seem to get my breath.
Two hours later, I began to feel the effects of all that was saturated with cigarette smoke in the house. I came home hackin', coughin and blowin' my nose all last night and to the present.
Today is a rather nice day in the high 50s and tomorrow should be the same before the next snow flies. I just don't feel like going outside. I have done my chores and am a "wimpy" grandpa at the moment. I just hate to feel bad when I'm used to feeling good most of the time.
Soooooo…I reckon I'll get through a couple more days and hope to get the very worst behind me. I should have lots of grass with all the snow I've had and I should be ready for some bovines in the next two to three weeks.
Thanks for listening to my head rattle around, and I really do feel a nap coming on! Stay tuned, check yer cinch on occasion, and let's hope our politicians will finally grow up right away!
I'll c. y'all, all y'all.❖
