Many Winners at Saratoga Chariot Races
Saratoga, Wyo.
A large crowd attended the opening day on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at the 28th annual Donald E. Erickson Memorial Chariot Races at Buck Springs east of Saratoga in spite of the cold and windy weather. The chariot races were the main event, but Mother Nature provided another race when snowflakes began to come faster and faster during the last races of the day.
In spite of the Saturday evening snowfall, Sunday weather was much more favorable although the snow added more work for track maintenance crews. However the weekend provided a welcome opportunity to be outdoors and the enthusiasm was evident for both chariot teams and drivers as well as spectators both days.
The Kas for a Legend team of Kas to Run and Society Legend, driven by James Olguin, had the best combined time for the weekend, to win the Interstate Traveling Trophy, presented by Betty Epler, and the Dave Pennock “Good Times” Trophy, donated and presented by Rosemary Erickson Hobbs. The combined winning time was 46:10 seconds.
