Nebraska Auctioneers Assn. plans competitions on Aug. 28

The Nebraska Auctioneers Association is planning a Bid Calling/Ringman Championship Competition on Aug. 28, 2011, at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island, Neb. The competition will begin at 1 p.m. at the Bristol Window Stage in Market Place at Fonner Park.
Any member of the Nebraska Auctioneers Association is eligible to participate. Check in for contestants is required by 12:00 noon to receive identification badges and to draw for their order in the auction along with items to sell.
A panel of selected judges for the contest will score Bid Calling contestants in the following categories: appearance and poise; introduction and command; salesmanship, eye contact, body language and crowd survey; plus chant, clarity, speed and rhythm. The Ringman contestants will be scored in the following categories: appearance; enthusiasm; salesmanship, eye contact and crowd survey plus effective communication of buyer participation to the auctioneer.
Awards are given in both competitions. The Bid Calling competition winner will also receive an entry fee to the 2012 International Auctioneers Championship along with registration to the National Auctioneer Assn. Convention to be held July 17-21, 2012, in Spokane, Wash.
