Ruth Alice Brawner, age 88, of Kersey, Colo., died May 23, 2008, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo.

She was born in Billings, Mont., to Fred Patterson and Annie (Golby) Patterson. She was raised in Brush and Fort Morgan, Colo. She graduated from Weldon High School in 1940.

Ruth married Howard Brawner Sr. on May 17, 1940, in Kimball, Neb.

She worked as a laborer in the fields, at Kuner Empson and Martin Produce for 20 years.

Ruth loved to raise poultry and sheep, calves and goats. She was a loving grandmother, and an outstanding teacher and mother. She was friendly, caring and a very good friend. She was always willing to help a friend or stranger.

She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and the Salvation Army Home League.

Ruth is survived by three daughters: Grace E. Bain of Hemet, Calif., Judy and husband Stan Schrader of Kersey, and Nancy and husband Bob Fillinger of Greeley; two sons: Howard S. Brawner Jr. of Evans, Colo., and Everett Brawner and wife Peggy of Toronto, Kan.; grandchildren: Kelly Welnetz of Kersey, Scott and Vicki Schrader of Greeley, Stacey and Robin Schrader of Gilbert, Ariz., Melvin and Susan Bain, Dale Bain, Billy Bain, Rebecca Bain, all of California, Cheri Wilson, Genia and Loren Swenson of Denver, Colo., Christopher and Vicki Fillinger, Devin and kari Fillinger of Greeley, Justin and Bridgette Brawner of Greeley, and Katie and Anthony Davis of Lincoln, Neb.; and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Ethel Wilson of Kersey, and Elsie Seal of Berthoud, Colo.; two brothers: Fred Patterson of Erie, Colo., and Roger Patterson of Fort Lupton, Colo.; and dear friends: Alta Orlovski, Margaret Roskop, Marge Garcia, Elsie Coleman, Rhonda Kerst, Barbara Gesick, Judy Eck, all friends of the “Golden Oldies.”

Services were held on May 27 in Greeley, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
