Ted Schutz, 80, of Elwood, died March 19, 2008, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 10, 1927, at Gosper County, Neb., to Richard and Josephine (Heny) Schutz. He attended Salem Lutheran Parochial School.

On May 2, 1948, he married Janet Umberger at the Methodist Church in Elwood. The couple made their home southwest of Elwood where they farmed and raised livestock until moving to Elwood in 2000.

He was a lifetime member of the Salem Lutheran Church as well as Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at Elwood. He was a past member of the Elwood Public School Board.

He loved attending rodeos, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Schutz of Elwood; four sons, Scot (Cindy) Schutz, Steve (Nancy) Schutz, Stanley (Rhonda) Schutz all of Elwood and Clay (Janet) Schutz of Grand Island; one daughter Jane (Bob) Hilton of Elwood; thirteen grandchildren, Anthony (Cori) Schutz of Lincoln, Tiffany (Bodie) Weeder of Minden, Danielle Schutz of Lincoln, Grant Schutz and Stephen Schutz of Elwood, Lisa (Naeson) Halker of Gretna, Lori (Ryan) Shutts of Sidney, Jason Schutz of Elwood, Amy (Rob) Czaplewski of Grand Island, Eric (Jami) Hilton of Eagle, Perry Schutz, Levi Schutz and Maddie Schutz all of Grand Island; nine great-grandchildren, Angelina and Berlyn Schutz, Payton and Hudson Weeder, Remington and Bellamy Halker, Aidan Shutts, Jenna Czaplewski and Nevayla Hilton; one sister, Elmyra Wolf of Arapahoe; sister-in-law, Esther Kaup of Elwood; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Schutz; two step-fathers, Frank and Emil Jorges; three brothers, Robert, Paul and Kenneth; and one sister, Nora June Lehmann.
