Lawrence L. “Bud” Carroll, 84, of Maxwell, died Aug. 5, 2009, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born July 13, 1925, in Brady to Lawrence D. and Olive Hazel (Brittenham) Carroll.

He was raised around Denver, Colo. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a diesel mechanic aboard several ships. He worked aboard a transport ship during the Normandy invasion.

After the Navy he returned to Colorado and met Othella Pewitt. They married on Nov. 12, 1947. To this union was born four children. He worked as a machinist in Colorado at various jobs.

In 1976, they moved to Maxwell. He worked at Goshen Rubber Company in Gothenburg until his retirement in 1988.

He enjoyed sunshine, fishing, gardening and music.

He was always positive, serious and strong when he needed to be but always enjoying life. His pride and joy was his family.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Othella; one daughter, Joy (Mike) Gutierrez of Denver, Colo.; three sons, Larry (Pat) of Wickenburg, Ariz., Mark (Cindy) of Aurora, Colo., and Gary (Terri) of Kittredge, Colo.; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Fite and Veda Nickerson both of Maxwell; brother-in-law, Frank Vierra of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lee and Eugene; four sisters, Jessie Schultz, Elnore Thurman, Lavonne Vierra and Nona Horton.
