Sonja Y. Stone, 65 of North Platte died March 6, 2008 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center of acute leukemia.

She was born Aug. 5, 1942, to Joney W. and Mildred E. (Eggert) Lunkwitz in North Platte. She grew up in the sandhills north of North Platte where she was born in her grandmother’s home and later moved to North Platte where she graduated from North Platte High School in 1960 and later became a licensed beautician in 1961.

She married Bobby (Bob) Stone on March 16, 1963, in North Platte. To this union two daughters were born – Tammy and Ranee.

She worked with her parents at the Lunkwitz Sanitation, and as co-owner of Bob Stone Sanitation and Paradise Acres and Petting Zoo.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and daughter. She was loved by all who knew her and they were always greeted with a smile and a hug.

Survivors include a daughter, Tammy (Dale) Lake of North Platte; step-son, Mark (Koleen) Stone of Brule; step-daughter, Laurie (Frank) Griffin of Bethany, Okal.; grandchildren, Suzanne, Melvin and Joney Lake of North Platte; step-grandchildren, Jacob and Mikel Dowdy of Brule and Chad and Kathy Griffin of Bethany, Okal.; sister, Dorothy (Don) Schmidt of North Platte; brothers, Gene (Lois) Lunkwitz of Paxton and Floyd (Pauline) Lunkwitz of Elko, Nev.; sister-in-law, Carolyn Mueller of Sutherland; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many special friends too numerous to mention and her loving dogs, Stubby and Missy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; daughter, Ranee; brother, Lawrence Mueller; and her mother and father-in-law, William “Pete” and Bertha Stone.
