, age 68, a longtime resident of Stratton, Colo., died Aug. 21, 2006, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1937, in Spearman, Texas, to Luther and Jewel (Stowe) Tatkenhorst. His family moved from Texas to south of Bethune, Colo., and later to Seibert, Colo. He graduated from Seibert High School in 1956.

On April 1, 1958, Roy married Shirley Cowgill of Seibert. To this union, three sons were born: Jeff Roy, Justin Scott, and Sheldon Earl.

At the age of 22, Roy was injured in a tractor accident, but he never let his disability get in his way. He worked as a dispatcher, parts salesman, lawnmower repairman.

He loved to drive tractor for Jack and Paul Lowe.

Roy was involved with the Stratton Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Seibert.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons Jeff of Poncha Springs, Colo., Justin and wife Kathy of Gillette, Wyo., and Sheldon and wife Donna of Stratton; grandchildren Levi, Cari, Michael, Crystal, Travis, and Amber, and one great-granddaughter Nevaeh Nicole. He is also survived by sisters Alama and husband Marvin Dove of Linwood, Kan., and Bonnie and husband Kay Larson of Beverly Hills, Fla.; brother Joe Tatkenhorst and wife Carol of Burlington, Colo., and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Michael Howard.

Graveside services were held on Aug. 24 at the Seibert Cemetery.
