, age 82, a longtime resident of Saguache, Colo., died at his home on Sept. 14, 2006, with the care of Hospice.

He was born on Feb. 2, 1924, in Saguache, to Sidney B. and Ida R. (Burch) Hall.

Cecil married Sarah Jane Graves on March 23, 1951, in Saguache.

He worked as an Assistant Postmaster in Saguache for 8-1/2 years. He then became a self-employed painter and carpenter for many years in Montrose and Fort Collins, Colo., and finally, Saguache.

Cecil served in the 45th Division, U.S. Army in World War II, and saw action in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. He was a proud member of the Garcia Post #110, American Legion, for over 60 years.

He was active in many local organizations including one term as Saguache County Commissioner, Saguache Town Board, Friends of Saguache County Library, Saguache Cemetery Association, and the Saguache Methodist Church.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Sarah J. Hall, who currently resides in Columbine Manor Nursing Home in Salida, Colo.; daughter Nancy A. and husband Jim Welker of Weldona, Colo.; son Sidney and wife Becky Hall of Saguache; and five grandchildren: Marie E. and husband Desmond Yap of Fort Collins, Colo., Jonathan E. Welker of Clinton, Mont., Brenda and husband Justin Thornton of Brush, Colo., Thomas B. Hall of Fort Collins, and William F. Hall of Saguache; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Sept. 30 in Saguache. A military service followed at Hillside Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the George E. Burch Memorial Scholarship Fund or Hospice del Valle.
